When the A Détacher show invitation arrived at the office - a graphic black flocked image of flora & fauna on top of simply printed recycled paper - the anticipation here over the show was already in full effect. What did we see in the Rorschach-like image? An Aesop's fable? The Girl Scouts "Celebrate Scouting" stamp on the envelope was perhaps a clue to be prepared...
As we took our seats, we found more clues about the mindset of the A Détacher muse this season, listed in the run of show card:
"NINA loved gasoline fumes
KATE D. had a twisted smile
MARIA delighted in decay
ULLA could not keep her leg still"
And so on.....
It pointed to a more complex girl, not quite the do-good Girl Scout that she appeared to be. The idyllic forest scene re-appeared in the flocked printed frocks and jumpsuits. But the fishnet footwear, bondage-style straps loosely bound and draped over skirts and dresses pointed to a more complicated psyche. Ditto for the girls' tightly pulled back hair, which transitioned into ultra-frizzy, manic buns from behind. We loved every bit of it!
