Shirt Tales

For some of us, photos of our childhood photos elicit a shudder - we'd rather forget the memories of our school picture day photos with the awkward bowl cut, braces, and gaudy star burst background.

But for the F/W 2012 collection from Comme des Garçons Shirt, the look book presents the idea of childhood nostalgia with a naively charming effect.   It shows pieces from the collection transposed on old black & white childhood photos from the earlier part of the century:  a girl smiling sweetly in a white communion veil and peter pan collar dress;  another jumping with gap-toothed smile in a polka dot twinset.  The memories of velvet collars and velveteen rabbits, pin curls and pinafores makes us think that in this instance, it's okay to dress younger than our age.
